Hamos is a German manufacturer of electrostatic separation technology for the recycling industry. Through years of research and development, hamos has positioned itself as one of the leaders of the materials separation industry. Hamos’ unique electrostatic separation system has not only opened the door to new applications previously thought impossible, but has also improved the performance of previous material separation processes. Today there are hundreds of hamos EKS (Plastic/Plastic Separators) and KWS (Metal/Plastic Separators) around the world all providing meaningful separation technology and proving hamos’ name as one of the frontrunners of the plastics machinery industry.
- Dry separation process
- High product purity
- Separation process independent of density or color
- Flexibility – one machine for dozens of plastics mixtures
- High yield
- High throughput

HAMOS EKS ELECTROSTATIC PLASTIC/PLASTIC SEPARATORS
Hamos EKS electrostatic separators make use of the differences in tribo-electric behavior of individual plastics. The plastic mixture is fed via a vibrating conveyor into a tribo-electric charging unit. Different plastics are charged here according to the specific properties of the material, taking on either a positive or negative charge. After charging, the mixture enters a high-tension field where the components are separated electrostatically into pure sorted fractions, determined by their different charges. Positive particles are attracted by a negative electrode, while negative particles are rejected and vice versa.
With the hamos EKS you can separate mixed plastics waste into individual fractions using electrostatic separation, as well as separate out undesired plastic contamination. The hamos EKS takes advantage of the differing tribo-electric properties of different plastics, separating these materials into 99.5% pure sorted fractions. This allows recycled mixed plastics waste to be used as quality raw material in new high-grade products. For proper processing, hamos systems require a few different parameters to work best. There must be two distinct and separate materials in the mixture (no composites), the material must be dry, dust free, and have a particle size of ~10mm.

Then the hamos EKS is the solution for you
Not sure if your material is suitable for electrostatic separation? Talk to one of our experts. Once you’ve given us a call, we would be happy for you to send us a sample (approx. 20 kg) which can be used for trialing in our technical facility.
With these trials we can show you exactly what can be done with your material, including the purity and throughput achieved by the EKS with your sample. No one else can create this kind of clean fraction so prepare to be amazed by the awesome separation power of the EKS.
HAMOS KWS ELECTROSTATIC METAL/PLASTIC SEPARATOR
Don’t run plastic/plastic mixtures? Well don’t worry because hamos has a solution. The KWS can even separate plastic/metal mixtures such as e-waste with no headaches.
The hamos KWS separates conductive from non-conductive materials. The mixture is introduced via vibrating conveyor to a rotating metal drum. Inside this process is also a 35,000-volt electrode that is constantly charging the materials. The metal loses it’s charge very quickly to the drum and is ejected by the rotational momentum, while the plastic loses it’s charge much slower, allowing for a very clean separation of the different materials.
For proper processing, hamos systems require a few different parameters to work best. There must be two distinct and separate materials in the mixture (no composites), the material must be dry, dust free, and have a particle size of ~10mm.
TURN-KEY RECYCLING SYSTEMS
Hamos offers complete turnkey solutions for recycling applications. Hamos not only supplies electrostatic separation technology but also material handling, transport and packaging modules for the fully automated operation of a three-shift system. This includes plant building for certain applications such as e-waste (hamos KRS) or post-consumer PVC windows and window profiles (hamos WRS.)
Hamos’ design principles include plant up-time, low maintenance, low operational supervision, and economically efficient operation as well as high purity output fractions.
The combination of the hamos EKS electrostatic separator and the SEA PIXEL color sorter woks to economically recycle PVC profile waste and post-consumer PVC windows. Almost all seals (rubber, plasticized PVC, etc.) are separated from dust free materials streams of PVS windows with the hamos EKS. Following this step is a SEA PIXEL electric color sorter which enhances the purity and improves the whiteness of the PVC. Purities of over 99.95% can be achieved with this unique combination of complimentary machinery.
Hamos supplies the KRS plastic recycling system for the processing of plastic mixtures from WEEE and refrigerators, which allows this system to create high purity fractions of PS, ABS, and PP. Even black-black plastic mixtures are no problem.
The KRS works best in conjunction with a sink-float or similar prior separation process.
